The Filipino Bloggers’ Prayer Brigade for the next President
by Mark Rodney Vertido
We are in a time when the world is again in the midst of a great crisis – economically, politically, environmentally, and also spiritually. We are already to what they call as the Modern World, a world that has constantly changing since history began. A modern world they say but it is not to all. Modernity brought change to the world – development in technology, people’s lifestyle, but in the broader sense it did not solve the continuing poverty of the greater populace. Many are still in living in slump areas and the poor becomes poorer still. Many nations in Africa, in South America, even Asia, and to be specific the Philippines are still not totally developed by that modernity.
Many Filipino says that if life was then hard in the earlier times, it is harder now than ever. We could not actually blame all that is happening to only one person for we all have the responsibility to live our life. We are still the most important factor in giving ourselves a better life, economically speaking. All others are just external factors that will surely affect us also but it is us who will make our life better for we cannot always just depend on other people or to God. God gives us all things for us to use and help us. He wants us to grow and stand on our own.
It has become already a bad part of our society and culture to always blame someone for our downfall or failure. We cannot do as such for as we have said we are the one responsible for our life. This is manifested on what is happening right now. Ever since our liberation we always blame the ones who are at the head of our country. The people sitting at the throne of Malacanang Palace is always being blamed for what is happening to our country. Marcos was dethroned but still the Presidency of this country has never fully satisfied the hungry and unsatisfied Filipino people. It is really then a fact that man has an unending wants. From Aguinaldo up to Macapagal-Arroyo, the satisfaction of the whole Filipino nation has not yet met but we cannot erase the fact that they all contributed to at least reach that satisfaction. Who will we blame? Are we to blame the Presidents of this country? Or is it just a boomerang effect that the blame should get back to us all? No one is the sole responsible for all of these. We have all our own faults for what is happening.
Who have chosen the President? Who? It is us. If the people in the past did not allow such people to be in Malacanang then there is no problem. And if the people of the past and the present time did not allow the bureaucracy of this country to be corrupted we will not be in this situation when the country suffers all crises that it can get. By our simple acts in the past and our behavior at the present we are already choosing the path for our destiny. God has his unique plan for us but it is us who will be the one to get there. We have chosen this troublesome life and it is now for us to do what is right so that we could change the direction to a better life. But we do not condemn suffering. It is in our suffering that we learn how to trust, be strong and learn from life.
The national election is now fast coming again. In a year, we will again choose for the next President of the Republic of the Philippines. As early as now we have already heard certain names for the presidency. This very position that everybody wants to grab. The question now is this, who will be the next one to seat in the realms of Malacanang Palace? Who will be the 15th President of the Republic of the Philippines?
As early as now many public campaign is being done to inform the people about this coming event of our history. Many of us here will elect the next one in Malacanang. Many first time voters like me will be in the face of one of the biggest decisions that they will make in their life that will change the history of this country for eternity. By that one ballot that every Filipino will drop, or will be filling up if computerized elections will be possible, the future of this country will change. The poor may become better or even worse. The economic and political system may become better or even in its gravest situation. Who can tell us what will be in the future? No one but us in that simple vote that we will cast will tell it. We should then take the risk to vote for the one who is the right one for the position not the one who is influential and popular but for the one whom are both having those personalities and the right one for it. We should all move, all of the people of this nation. Every voice and every hand counts for the future of our country. We cannot be stuck forever in a transition period for we need to settle the country also at the most stable peak that it can reach. If we will be always in transition it can get worse and worse. We have already made two EDSA revolutions but the change that we want is not yet achieve until now. The first, the world accepted it and welcomed it enthusiastically but a second one the world cannot accept already. It is in our hands, yes it is.
But what can we do now? The most important thing to do now is to pray for our country, to pray for the next Filipino President. A new brigade in the Filipino blogging world was started, a brigade to pray for the next President of the Philippines. A brigade which aims to spread to the blogging world to pray for our next president so that as a nation we will discern the one who is just the right person for that seat. As Filipino Catholics, and being a 100% Katolikong Pinoy, let us join our hands to pray for the next President of our country.
